Government withdraws interest rate cut on small savings

Within 12 hours of taking decision regarding rate cut reduction on small savings, the Finance Ministry on Thursday withdrew the order. This means interest rates on various small saving schemes such as National Saving Certificates (NSC), Public Provident Fund (PPF) will continue for at least three more months starting April 1.
On Wednesday, the Ministry issued an office memorandum effecting cut in the range of 50 basis points to 90 basis points. This was one of the biggest reductions after the interest rate unchanged for longest period.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee didn t disclose details regarding cases filed against her in Assam and West Bengal in her nomination paper. BJP s Nandigram candidate Suvendu Adhikari has approached the Election Commission claiming that Mamata Banerjee submitted the affidavit without mentioning about six cases filed against her. In his complaint, Adhikari said that Banerjee failed to disclose in the paragraph 5(ii) particulars of pending criminal proceedings against her. The BJP has now demanded from the poll body that the nomination of Mamata be forthwith rejected.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikary, who is pitted against his mentor West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nandigram in the coming state election, has declared net worth of over Rs 80 lakh.
