Health officials say for now, Covid vaccine will remain public, not private

Mexico City, Mexico Mexico’s undersecretary of health says that at some point, the private health sector will be able to acquire doses of Covid vaccines. Undersecretary Hugo López Gatell says that in the meantime, all vaccines that enter the country will be free of charge and in accordance with the public Covid Vaccination Plan.
The Ministry of Health will begin its vaccine program December 22, with 125,000 vaccines being reserved for Mexico’s health professionals. The ministry notes that agreements have been made to acquire at least 116 million vaccines.

Mexico City – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Tuesday led the presentation of the National Vaccination Policy against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
“The vaccine will be given universally and free of charge because it is the right of all. In the first stage, from December 2020 to February 2021, it will be administered to health care professionals who care for people who are sick with COVID-19 and to older adults,” he said.

Mexico today grants permission to use the Pfizer anticovid vaccine
Mexico, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) will grant Pfizer today the registration of emergency use of its vaccine against Covid-19, making Mexico the sixth country to approve that formula.
The first to approve it were the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada and Saudi Arabia, and yesterday it was pre-authorized in the United States. The decision of the Cofepris will be given after the recommendation in the neighboring country.
The Ministry of Health reported that after a meeting of the US agency, the Molecules, Authorization and Sanitary Operation Committees, along with the team of the Cofepris Immunization Technical Advisory Group to analyze the clinical file presented by Pfizer on November, the opinion will be issued.
