PHNOM PENH, April 17 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): A total of 50,000 doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines that Cambodia had purchased from China touched down in Phnom Penh on the morning of Saturday (April 17).
Ministry of Health secretary of state Youk Sambath was present at the Phnom Penh International Airport to receive the vaccines, according a broadcast by the National Television of Cambodia.
Ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine said a formal handover ceremony could not be held, at least until April 27, a day before the two-week lockdown of the capital is scheduled to be lifted – the Covid-19 situation eases.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has said Cambodia plans to vaccinate at least 10 million people, with 20 million doses required to this end.

Ayuth, a resident of Boeung Raing commune in Phnom Penh s Daun Penh district, was admitted to the hospital on April 5 after testing positive for Covid-19.

Phnom Penh, April 10 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng late on Friday (April 9) placed parts of three districts in two-week lockdown as Covid-19 cases in the areas soar to an alarming level. The lockdown will last through April 23.
Sreng said on Saturday (April 10) the decision came after 631 workers from Din Han Enterprise, which has over 2,600 workers, tested Covid-19 on April 9 alone, just hours after the Ministry of Health reported 576 new cases linked to the February 20 community outbreak and the country s 25th Covid-19 fatality.
A special plane carrying the first batch of China-donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Cambodia on Sunday, which was welcomed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the capital s airport.
