The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a free webinar for service technicians on May 7 entitled Documenting the Repair Process / How to Do It Right. The webinar, featuring Rhett Holland, collision and insurance vertical business manager at Alldata L.L.C., will begin at 4 p.m. EDT. To be effective in the workforce, the ASE said, shops need to document steps in the repair process accurately to ensure that the needs of both the employer and customer. This webinar will discuss methods to make sure this is done, contributing to improved profitability along the way.

Because these skilled professionals deserve our thanks, ASE has designated June as Automotive Service Professionals Month to recognize the valuable work they perform each and every day.

CTC hosts event for transitioning soldiers

Central Texas College, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, Texas Ford Dealers and the U.S. Army hosted an event to recognize the partnership program which provides transitioning soldiers career opportunities in the automotive industry. The Technicians of Tomorrow program, which began last August, is designed to educate soldiers as they transition out of service and place them in employment as technicians at Ford dealerships across Texas, according to a news release from Central Texas College. The partnership event held in the automotive bay of the CTC Industrial Technology Department was highlighted by a grant donation of $106,303 from the Workforce Solutions of Central Texas for training vehicles and equipment. The grant was matched by Texas Ford Dealers for a total contribution of more than $212,600.

Diesel engines once were – and, to many people, still are – considered the poster child of automotive polluters. If avid environmentalists, who embrace the coming of the zero-emissions electric vehicle age, dislike gasoline internal-combustion engines, they loathe diesels. But that disdain largely is a case of old stereotypes lingering on.  Diesels once deserved the bad rap. Many diesel-powered vehicles of the past belched thick, dark clouds of pungent tailpipe soot.
