Teacher pay in Alabama is going up this fall 2% across the board, and more for middle or high school math or science educators.
Gov. Kay Ivey first proposed the main raise in her state of the state address, and lawmakers made it final last week. The increase comes as teachers finish what many called the most challenging school year ever.
“If this pandemic has taught us anything, it reinforced what we already knew – teachers are vital to our student’s learning, and our state employees keep government services operational for the people of Alabama,” Ivey said in a news release Tuesday.
CHARLESTON â The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) recently recognized 96 educators as part of this yearâs National Board Certification (NBC) Recognition Celebration. Due to COVID-19, the celebration was virtual. There were 64 new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) as well as 32 educators who successfully renewed their certification last year.
National Board Certification is the gold-standard credential for educators in the United States and symbolizes accomplished practice beyond licensure. The rigorous process â which can take three years to complete â includes four components: content knowledge; differentiation in instruction; teaching practice and learning environment; and effective/reflective practice.
âThe data is clear about NBCTs and their profound impact on student learning,â said State Superintendent of Schools W. Clayton Burch. âThe West Virginia Department of Education wholeheartedly supports National Board Certificat
Jessica Vallincourt
Jessica Vallincourt, a ninth- and eleventh-grade English teacher at Fergus High School, recently joined the ranks of teachers throughout the U.S. to have gained National Board Certification. Vallincourt, who finished the vigorous process of earning her NBC, joined nine other teachers in Montana who recently gained their certification.
According to the Montana Professional Teaching Foundation, which administers the program in Montana, the state now has 164 National Board Certified Teachers. Vallincourt is the first teacher in the Lewistown School District to gain her certification.
“Earning National Board Certification is a crowning achievement,” said MPTF Chair Amanda Curtis. “The nine professional educators deserve congratulations for their incredible feat they’ve accomplished. These educators have dedicated their lives to providing their students the best education in America, and Montana families are grateful to them.”
