Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday launched the Emergency Broadband Benefit program. The agency is also partnering with the US Department of Education to get the word out to households that have students unable to access their education because they don t have broadband or don t have a device to get online.  The $50-a-month broadband subsidy and one-time $100 payment toward a device to connect to the internet are part of the COVID-19 relief package Congress passed in December. Starting Wednesday, qualifying households will be able to apply for the benefit.

When the pandemic led Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to announce orders that the state s public schools close in March 2020, Delaware school district began providing free meals to families via curbside pickup. When most school districts began returning at least some of their students to classrooms last fall, the U.S. Department of Agriculture waived all fees for its breakfast and lunch programs, providing the meals for free to every student, not only those on a free or reduced-price plan.

DCFS to Distribute Second Round of P-EBT This Summer

DCFS has received federal approval to distribute a second round of #PandemicEBT (P-EBT) benefits to eligible families. Qualifying households with students in grades K-12 will being receiving the P-EBT benefits this summer. Students are eligible to receive P-EBT if they would normally receive free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, but haven’t been receiving those meals during the 2020-21 school year because their school is closed or they are on a fully virtual or hybrid learning schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools will report to DCFS which students meet the criteria for eligibility and whether they are on a hybrid or fully virtual learning schedule. DCFS will then issue P-EBT benefits on a Louisiana Purchase EBT card to each eligible student at the mailing address provided by their school.
