NEWTON Wednesday s Clothesline Project to honor victims of sexual abuse, will be postponed until next week due to an inclement weather forecast.
Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Intervention Services (DASI), which organizes the annual event along with Ginnie s House Children s Advocacy Center, announced the postponement Tuesday morning.
Wednesday s forecast calls for up to a half-inch of rain with thunderstorms and wind gusts as high as 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The event, which recognizes victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence has been rescheduled to be held via Facebook Live at 12:15 p.m. April 28. The first speaker is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., said DASI prevention and education coordinator Nina Tripodi.
Sexual assaults can occur any time and anywhere. One victim recounted how she was assaulted twice in two very different situations.Â
The first occurred when the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, was walking home. She was 19 years old, and she was assaulted by a stranger. She ran to the nearest pay phone and dialed 911. Although police said the perpetrator fit the description of someone who had been involved in other rapes, police likely never found him.Â
The second assault occurred five years ago, when the victim was in her mid-30s. This time, the aggressor was someone she knew, and a well-respected person in the community. As a military dependent, she was given resources such as a lawyer and an advocate to help support her after she reported the incident.Â

If you re a woman, when was the last time you said no to a friend, your partner, a colleague or your kid?
When the school asked if you could volunteer on the committee, you said yes even though the thought of one more thing on your plate made you want to scream. When the boss asked if you could push up a deadline, you said yes even though you knew the request was unreasonable. When the masseuse asked if you liked the pressure, you said yes even though it felt like your body was breaking.
For many women, no is a foreign word on the tongue.
