The mass abduction of school children started with the kidnap of students of Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State on April 14, 2014 and was followed by the abduction of over 110 school girls in Dapchi, Yobe State on February 19, 2018. While over 100 of the Chibok girls are still missing, only Leah Sharibu, is still unaccounted for among the Dapchi girls. Vanguard News When students are no longer safe in schools On By Adesina Wahab ON the night of April 14, 2014, some innocent girls at a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, were abducted from the school by Boko Haram insurgents.  The number of the affected girls was given as 276. They were sitting for their West African Examinations Council papers. Up until now, no fewer than 112 girls are still missing, as only some of them were able to escape or were released after negotiations with their abductors. Not long afterwards, girls in another secondary school in Dapchi, Yobe State were also kidnapped, thus opening another chapter in Nigeria’s battle with insecurity.

Translate SSANU/NASU strike: No to another shutdown of varsities NANS, NAPTAN On By Adesina Wahab AFTER the prolonged shut down of the nation’s universities due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease and the industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the university system is again reeling under the weight of another strike courtesy of members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU. The two unions, acting under the aegis of the SSANU, NASU Joint Action Committee, JAC, have embarked on an industrial action since last Friday, threatening the smooth operations of federal universities in the country. Some of their demands are in line with what ASUU also went on a nine-month strike for, while some are even against ASUU as a union.
