Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), says urgent strengthening of regional and international cooperation is needed to identify and manage emerging new jurisdictional manifestations of drug trafficking.
Marwa made the call during the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice on Wednesday in Kyoto, Japan.
In a statement by the agency’s Director Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Wednesday in Abuja, Marwa said criminals and organised criminal groups had deployed new strategies.

This, he said, was through increased online criminal activities in a bid to navigate the global shutdown of traditional trafficking routes following the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is just as the NDLEA boss put the loss accruing from activities of drug merchants to over 400 billion dollars to foreign havens, stolen and expatriated by corrupt leaders and their foreign accomplices, including multinational companies.
Marwa made the appeal on Wednesday, while speaking at the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, taking place in Kyoto, Japan.

Oliver Stolpe, country representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), says he is confident Mohammed Marwa, chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), will excel in his new position.
According to a release signed by Jonah Achema of the public affairs unit of NDLEA, Stolpes said the appointment of Marwa is a positive sign and has renewed global confidence in Nigeria’s drug control capability.
“We have every confidence in your ability to deliver,” Stolpe said during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
He said the UNODC is in support of the National Drug Control Master Plan and other drug control documents being developed by NDLEA in its bid to wipe out illicit drugs in the country.

The new chairman has cautioned illicit drug cultivators, exporters, traffickers, and customers against foul practices in the country.

Stolpes on the commissioning of the new chairman said that it would emerge as a positive sign and would renew the confidence of the world in Nigeria s drug control capability.

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, has promised to deepen its relationship with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, under its new Chairman/Chief Executive, Gen. Buba Marwa(retd).
The promise was made on Monday in Abuja, when the UN body’s Country Representative to Nigeria, Mr. Oliver Stolpe, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the agency to congratulate Marwa on his recent appointment as Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA.
