The items on which the duty has been waived include Remdesivir active pharmaceutical ingredients, injection Remdesivir and beta Cyclodextrin used in manufacture of Remdesivir.

NEW DELHI: Amid surging COVID-19 cases in the country, the government on Tuesday waived customs duty on Remdesivir, its raw materials and other components used to make the antiviral drug. The move would help augment domestic availability and reduce cost of the injection.
Remdesivir is being used in the treatment of coronavirus.
In a notification, the Department of Revenue said The central government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest to do, hereby exempts the goods.when imported into India, from the whole of the duty of customs leviable.

Amid the rising cases of coronavirus pandemic across the nation, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed the citizens regarding usage of key anti-viral drug Remdesivir Remdesivir is not a life-saving drug in COVID-19. It is to be administered only in the hospital settings, the ministry said in a tweet.
The ministry also mentioned several other features and relevant information related to the injectable drug.
1. Remdesivir is an experimental investigational drug granted emergency authorisation use.Â
2. It is not a life saving drug in COVID-19 pandemic.Â
3. Studies do not demonstrate mortality reduction with this drug.Â

Pharmaceutical companies have reduced the price of Remedisvir Injection.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) said on Saturday that pharmaceutical companies have lowered the price after government intervention to increase the availability of Remedisvir injections used in the treatment of COVID-19.
Pharmaceutical companies such as Cadila Healthcare, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Cipla have cut prices of their brand’s Remedisavir Injection (100 mg / vial). The antiviral drug is used in the treatment of COVID-19.
Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Sadanand Gowda praised the decision taken by the pharmaceutical companies.
