Fireworks and speech by North Korean leader mark first-ever outdoor national conference of war veterans

Elderly veterans of the Korean War gathered in Pyongyang Tuesday night for the first-ever outdoor national veterans conference, complete with fireworks and a speech by Kim Jong Un in which the leader compared pandemic “hardships” to those of the war.
In his speech at the Seventh National Conference of War Veterans, the North Korean leader praised the veterans for helping hold back international forces led by the “U.S. imperialist monsters” during the 1950-53 war, according to the party-run outlet Rodong Sinmun.

PYONGYANG, July 27 (Xinhua) Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery at midnight on Tuesday to mark the Korean War armistice anniversary, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
Kim, general secretary of the Workers Party of Korea, was greeted at the spot by commanding officers of the Korean People s Army, and laid a flower before the cemetery, the report said.
Meanwhile, thousands of war veterans in their 80s or 90s were gathering in Pyongyang these days for the Seventh National Conference of War Veterans, according to the KCNA. Enditem
