The National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) has announced its commitment towards empowering 99 million Nigerian women in the oil and gas sectors within the next three years.
Director General of the centre, Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta who said this in Abuja during the official launch of the Nigerian women for Liquefied Petroleum Gas project, said this was in a bid to improve women’s livelihoods, survival, clean environment, as well as pulling millions of households out of poverty.
She said the scheme, which will be piloted in 11 states namely, Katsina, Sokoto, FCT, Plateau, Adamawa, Borno, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Imo and Ogun states, will be used as a platform to mobilise and educate women on accessibility, acceptability, affordability and availability.

SGBV: Only 11 of over 3,000 cases prosecuted Minister

The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, says only 11 out of over 3,000 reported cases of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in six states have been prosecuted.
Tallen revealed this during the launch of the National Strategic Knowledge Management Technical Working Group on SGBV by the ministry and its partners under the Spotlight Initiative programme of the EU and UN to eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
The joint EU-UN Spotlight Initiative is being implemented in Adamawa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Lagos, Sokoto and the FCT.
According to the minister, data from the SGBV Situation Room revealed that out of over 3,000 reported cases, 107 were fatal, 742 cases were still open, while 188 cases were closed and only 11 had so far been prosecuted.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, says the Federal Government is working towards opening micro gas distribution channels across all local governments areas in the country.
Sylva, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Nigerian Women for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) project, organised by the National Centre for Women’s Development (NCWD), Zigma Gas Limited and Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources on Friday in Abuja.
The minister, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on LPG, Brenda Ataga, emphasised on healthy alternative to firewood as fuel for cooking because it is a clean source of energy.
“The ministry is targeting to ameliorate the energy challenge in Nigeria and clean cooking gas is key in this regard because 70 per cent greenhouse emissions are caused by deforestation.
