A multimillion-pound boost will see climate change placed at the heart of the Discovery Point heritage museum in Dundee.
Five new or improved major attractions at the home of the famous scientific research ship RRS Discovery are scheduled as the city looks to turn itself into a “an important centre of climate change heritage, science and learning”, said the Dundee Heritage Trust.
The £12m project is more than halfway funded after cash injections from both the Scottish Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the trust added.
Several of the UK’s most popular heritage sites have been granted a total of more than £14 million in National Lottery funding to help them improve access for disabled people.
The cash will also be used to help more people from a diverse range of backgrounds connect with the UK’s monuments, the National Lottery Heritage Fund said.
Among the sites to receive a funding boost was the Anglesey Column Trust to help it adapt The Marquess of Anglesey’s Column and Cottage in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Wales.
The site, which commemorates the first marquess’ bravery in the Napoleonic Wars, received £872,800 which will be spent on adding an accessible walkway and a tree canopy viewing platform.

Dundee’s iconic Discovery Point is set to undergo a £12 million transformation – with more than half the funds already secured.
The project will see the attraction – home to RRS Discovery – given a major overhaul.
And the new features, which will include a “dome experience”, are set to have a focus on climate change and the environment.

The project – which was first unveiled last year – has been awarded £900,000 of Scottish Government funding through the Tay Cities Culture and Tourism Investment Programme, with another £1.6m approved subject to a successful match-funding drive.
