SINGAPORE: The Self-Employed Person Income Relief Scheme (SIRS) paid out about S$1.8 billion to nearly 200,000 eligible individuals between April and December this year, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) said on Wednesday (Dec 16).
The scheme - aimed at supporting the self-employed through the COVID-19 pandemic - provides three cash payouts of S$3,000 each to self-employed people with less means and family support.
SINGAPORE - Lower- and middle-income workers affected by the pandemic will get more help from the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) under a new grant.
Called the Covid-19 Recovery Grant (CRG), the scheme announced on Wednesday (Dec 16) is for those who continue to suffer significant job or income losses despite earlier measures to help workers.
People can start applying for the grant from Jan 18, 2021. Applications will close on Dec 31 next year.
The new grant is different from the existing Covid-19 Support Grant or Self-Employed Person Income Relief Scheme (Sirs). Applications for the Covid-19 Support Grant will close by Dec 31, while the Sirs will lapse by year end.

A 29-year-old Bangladeshi worker at a Land Transport Authority (LTA) construction site beside the Changi MRT depot died yesterday morning after a workplace accident.
This comes after five workplace fatalities in the two weeks between late last month and early this month, prompting the labour movement to urge companies to prioritise and safeguard workers safety.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said the latest accident occurred in Koh Sek Lim Road, which runs into the Changi MRT depot. The police said they were alerted to the accident at 9.58am yesterday.
