New scheme will allow singles to apply for public rental flats without flatmate

This is to help those who may not be able to find a flatmate on their own, Dr Faishal said during the debate on his ministry s budget. Under the existing Joint Singles Scheme, two or more single persons may jointly apply for a public rental flat. With the upcoming pilot, the HDB will set aside a few floors in several rental blocks and appoint a social service agency to manage these flats.

(File photo: Reuters/Kevin Lam) 03 Feb 2021 03:36PM) Share this content Bookmark SINGAPORE: The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has been exploring new technologies to improve on current repair methods for ceiling leaks, and has identified two new options, said Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on Tuesday (Feb 2).  The two new repair methods - the nanotechnology waterproofing system and overlaying waterproofing membrane system - provide alternative options for residents who do not wish to hack their toilet tiles or who prefer to keep the existing finishes in their toilets, said Dr Faishal.

50 Grab vehicles fitted with AEDs to respond to cardiac arrests, with drivers trained as life-savers

SINGAPORE - More than 60 private-hire drivers have been trained and equipped to be lifesavers in an ongoing effort by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to get more first responders on the roads. Partnering with a ride-hailing firm for the first time, SCDF has fitted 50 Grab vehicles with automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which are portable devices that can send an electric shock to the heart to revive it during a cardiac arrest. The 50 vehicles have also been equipped with fire extinguishers and first aid kits, and 64 Grab drivers have been trained to use the equipment, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and give basic first aid.
