A $200 million rescue package has been put forward from the federal government to restart the stalled Murray Basin Freight Rail network.
Work on the trouble-plagued project - which was meant to have standardised 1000 kilometres of track in Victoria s west - stopped in June last year, with the Victorian Auditor-General later slamming the Andrews government s mismanagement.
The Murray Rail project is intended to upgrade rail transport in Victoria s west.

In May the federal Coalition was handed a revised business case that recommended further federal investment to kick start the work.
Federal Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Minister Michael McCormack said on Wednesday the package would fund the most extensive package of works recommended by the revised business case, which includes remedying key issues caused by works to date.

Former Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon says the opposition won t win the next election unless his colleagues get on their bikes and visit workers at coal mines, gas plants and factories across suburban and regional Australia.
In a speech to the Sydney Institute on Wednesday, the veteran MP said the irrational reaction from those within his party towards him after suggesting the Opposition reach a political settlement with the Morrison government has only strengthened his resolve.

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has thrown his support behind a proposed inquiry that will grill financial regulators and banks over plans to pull back on lending or insuring mining projects because of climate change.
Big banks including the ANZ, which has ruled out financing any new coal mines or coal-fired power stations and asked its biggest clients to provide plans to decarbonise, are expected to be hauled in front of the parliamentary probe to be chaired by Coalition climate sceptic George Christensen.
George Christensen, at a pro-coal rally in Queensland last year, will chair the inquiry.
