In the East County congressional district that former Rep. Duncan Hunter once represented, community leaders and elected officials had mixed reactions Wednesday to the news that President Donald Trump planned to award the disgraced lawmaker a full pardon for his years of misusing campaign donations.
Some were grateful; others were livid.
“Was there wrong done? Based on the laws that have been passed that’s 100 percent correct,” said Floyd Jones, an El Cajon businessman who has been close to the Hunter family for decades.
“However, was there any justice done?” Jones asked. “He gave up his congressional seat. The price and penalty he has paid have been great. How would you like to lose your family and your home?”

(KGTV) President Donald Trump has granted a full pardon to former Rep. Duncan Hunter, according to the White House Press Secretary.
Hunter pleaded guilty in 2019 to misuse of campaign funds and was sentenced to 11 months in federal prison.
âMr. Hunter has dedicated much of his adult life to public service. Mr. Hunter represented Californiaâs 50th Congressional District from 2013 to 2020. Prior to his time in Congress, Mr. Hunter was an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Inspired to enlist after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Mr. Hunter saw combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan,â the White House said Tuesday.
