Good morning everyone, it’s great to have you here with us today on International Women’s Day.
Thank you so much to everyone who is here for being with us as we launch the third phase of Stop it at the Start, the national primary prevention campaign to reduce violence against women and their children.

Before I begin can I first acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which I meet with you, the Ngunnawal People, and pay my respects to their leaders past, present and emerging. I want to acknowledge their continuing connection and contribution to our land, waters and culture. I acknowledge that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists. Always was, always will be.
I also want to thank AISA for bringing together what I would call ‘PLU’ or ‘people like us. It is an impressive agenda for the next three days – with an equally impressive selection of speakers and panellists – which makes me delighted I been asked to provide a key note – because clearly – it can only go up from here.

Indigenous leader Noel Pearson says Australia is incomplete without constitutional recognition of First Nations people, as leaders renew calls for a referendum on a Voice to Parliament.

First Nations households are suffering a yawning “Digital Divide” with the rest of Australia, with a new report released on Closing the Gap Day showing one in four First Nations households has no internet access, limiting learning opportunities for Indigenous students.
COVID-19 widened this gap over the last year, with school closures meaning that many First Nations students could not access the learning materials, teaching and support that their class peers could access online, the report finds.
