Sensex gained 508 points; Nifty topped 14,450 0 1 1 minute read MUMBAI: The equity benchmark Sensex gained 508 points on Monday to gain gains in the index major ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and Axis Bank amid a mixed trend in global markets. 30-share BSE index It gained 508.06 points or 1.06 percent to close at 48,386.51. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 143.65 points, or 1 percent, to 14,485. Axis Bank topped the Sensex pack by over 4 per cent, topping ICICI Bank, UltraTech Cement, HUL, SBI, PowerGrid, Bajaj Auto and Reliance Industries. On the other hand, HCL Tech, HDFC Bank, Maruti, Sun Pharma and TCS lagged behind. “Domestic equities have reduced the number of rising COVID-19 cases and have led to a faster recovery in financials,” said Reliance Securities Head Strategy Binod Modi.

Ironically, the advisory is couched in well-meaning phraseology and strives to create an impression that a caring government is trying to allay peopleâs fears and merely wants to strike a note of caution. While assertions that wearing face masks at home greatly reduce a personâs risk of catching the virus is stating the obvious, the concerted attempt to catapult the mask from the street into the living room does smack of a fear psychosis that has gripped the government of late.
