With 2,127 persons having arrived from the U.K. in Karnataka from December 1 till date, the State Health Department is faced with the mammoth task of monitoring their health status and tracing their contacts.
According to data from the Health Department, the samples of 233 passengers have been collected for tests so far. Of the 2,127, as many as 1,696 have landed in Bengaluru. A total of 179 samples have been collected from Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and BBMP limits. Of these, the highest are from the East zone with 48 persons followed by 38 from Bommanahalli zone.

The Telangana government has set up a special surveillance mechanism to tackle the spread of a more virulent SARS-CoV-2 virus sequenced in the UK. A tipline 040-24651119 has also been installed for travellers from the UK, said Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, Director of Public Health at a crowded press conference in a small room in Hyderabad on Tuesday. “About 358 travellers have come from the UK and they are in the process of being identified and will be asked to quarantine and observe symptoms,” said Dr Rao who said all passengers from UK are being tested with RT-PCR but all of them have tested negative.“There is no need to panic about the variant. New Delhi: Following the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus in the United Kingdom, which the European country has said is highly infectious and was out of control , India on Tuesday released a set of fresh guidelines to deal with the situation.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in view of the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 virus.
COVID-19 situation has improved in State, according to officials. The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences run under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the J.N. Institute of Medical Sciences, which comes under the Manipur government, will reopen. This was stated by Chief Minister N. Biren, who also holds the Health portfolio.
Health Director K. Rajo said, “This is in view of the improved situation in the COVID-19 infection in the State”.
Additional Director of Health K. Saheekanta Mangang, who heads the COVID-19 Care Committee, said, “There has been a downward trend for over one week. The number of COVID-19 infections has always been less than 100 in Manipur. There has been no death of any COVID-19 patient in the last few days. The toll since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Manipur is 337”.
