Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens has invited entries from those who have excelled in working for the welfare of senior citizens, for conferment of ‘Vayoshreshta Samman-2021’ award for the year 2021-22, given by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The achievers can download the prescribed entry form from the website http://socialjustice.nic.in or obtain from the Department office at Bengaluru or at the district offices. Scroll.in published a report on the five-month delay in disbursement of social security pensions in Jharkhand, the National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the government of Jharkhand and the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment giving them six weeks to submit a detailed report on the delays.

Plea had challenged 69% reservation
The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it has no role in the choices made by the Tamil Nadu government with regard to the provision of reservation for specific castes or communities in State government jobs and admissions.
The Centre was responding to a petition challenging the constitutionality of the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in the Services under the State) Act of 1993, which provides 69% reservation in the State.
