New Delhi [India], December 20 (ANI): With 26,624 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India s total coronavirus cases reached 1,00,31,223, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
According to the Health Ministry, 29,690 recoveries have been reported in the last 24 hours. The difference in the new recoveries outnumbering new cases has also improved the recovery rate to 95.51 per cent today.
The total numbers of recovered and active cases in the country are 95,80,402 and 3,05,344 respectively. Meanwhile, the country s death toll stands at 1,45,477 after 341 deaths. India s present active caseload consists of just 3.04 per cent of India s total positive cases, Ministry said.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on December 20 that Indians may get their first COVID-19 vaccine shot in January 2021.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the Health Minister said: “Our first priority has been safety & effectiveness of vaccines. We don t want to compromise on that. I personally feel, maybe in any week of January, we can be in a position to give first COVID vaccine shot to people of India.”

In a positive development in India s national effort to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan yesterday (19 December) announced that the nation is at the cusp of authorising the first set of COVID-19 vaccines, reports

Dr Vardhan also emphasised the need for an expeditious vaccination drive to cover all the target populations estimated to be around 30 crores. He made the assertions and announcements while chairing the 22nd meeting of the High-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19.
It should be noted meanwhile that Dr Vardhan also appealed the need for diligently maintaining a COVID appropriate behaviour and follow the relevant guidelines. In addition to this though, Dr Vardhan also expressed deep gratitude to all COVID warriors, who have been steadfastly serving without any fatigue throughout the pandemic.
