New Delhi [India], December 30 (ANI): Union Minister Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday reviewed the status of the disease Kala-Azar in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
During an event held in presence of concerned officials from these fours states, the Union Health Minister asserted that the Government of India is strongly committed to the elimination of Kala Azar. Kala Azar is the 2nd largest parasitic killer in the world after Malaria and results in a 95 per cent fatality rate if the patients are not treated. Additionally, up to 20 per cent of the patients who are correctly treated and cured, develop a skin condition called Post-Kala-Azar Dermal Leishmaniasis (PKDL) which surfaces within months to years after treatment. Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], December 30 (ANI): Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta on Wednesday requested Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to lift a ban on admission of students in three medical colleges of the state in Dumka, Hazaribagh and Palamu.
Gupta made the request to Vardhan through a video conference. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has prohibited the admission process of these medical colleges citing the inadequate basic infrastructure.
Speaking to ANI over the phone, Gupta said, Jharkhand is a poor and backward state. Report of the Medical Council of India suggests that there s a crisis of medical staff in the state. 6 UK returnees found positive for new coronavirus variant in India ANI | Updated: Dec 29, 2020 10:43 IST
New Delhi [India], December 29 (ANI): Six UK returnees have been found positive for the new UK variant coronavirus genome in India. The Union Health Minister stated that samples of three UK returnees have been tested and found positive for new UK strain in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad and one in National Institute of Virology, Pune.
All these persons have been kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by respective State Governments.
Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is going on, the Union Health Ministry stated.
