Health Ministry urges Central Ministries, PSUs to dedicate their hospital beds to COVID-19 management Photo: Pexels In the wake of surging COVID-19 cases in many states and UTs, the union health ministry on Friday advised all central Ministries to issue instructions to the hospitals under their control or their PSUs to set-up exclusive dedicated hospital wards or separate blocks within the hospitals for COVID Care, as was done last year. This aims to substantially augment the hospital infrastructure for effective clinical management of severe COVID-19 patients across the country. Additionally, these dedicated hospital wards or blocks have to be equipped to provide all supportive and ancillary services including Oxygen supported beds, ICU beds, ventilators and specialised Critical Care Units (wherever available), laboratory services, imaging services, kitchen, laundry along with dedicated health work force.

Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, April 16 : Amid a surge in the Covid cases, the Union health and family welfare ministry has advised the Central ministries and the Public Sector Units (PSUs) to dedicate the hospitals under their control for Covid care. The Union Health ministry has suggested to all the ministries to issue instructions to the hospitals under their control and the PSUs to set up exclusive dedicated hospital wards or separate blocks within the hospitals as was done last year.

More beds in Bengaluru hospitals reserved for Covid-hit As new daily corona virus infections are exceeding the heights of the first wave since the past few weeks, many State and UTs across the country have been reporting a surge in the cases and deaths caused by COVID-19. According to the health ministry data showed on Friday, India reported a record daily increase of 217,353 COVID-19 infections over the last 24 hours.  In the last nine days, it was the eighth record daily increase. Total cases reached nearly 14.3 million, second only to the United States which has reported more than 31 million infections. The Union Government has been leading the fight against COVID-19 with a Whole of Government approach through a collaborative strategy of proactively supporting the States in COVID management and public health response measures.

A day after recording 20, 510 cases, India’s fourth-largest state reported 27,426 new cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest-ever daily spike in the state. While state capital Lucknow reported 6598, Prayagraj recorded 1758, and Varanasi 2344. Active cases at 1,50,676 while 9,583 deaths and 6,33,461 recoveries have been recorded so far in the state. 1,02,96,675 vaccine doses administered till now including 14,87,037 people who have received their second jab,  UP Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.
