CHARLOTTE, N.C. Persistent systemic challenges continue to prevent people of color from securing home loans.
As WCNC Charlotte has reported, data shows most of Charlotte s largest lenders denied Black applicants two to three times more often than their white counterparts in 2018 and 2019.
Now WCNC Charlotte is partnering with local Carolina organizations to make a difference by spotlighting available community resources.
WCNC Charlotte hosted Bring It Home, a virtual, town hall event helping Black applicants overcome mortgage loan disparities. The live forum provided resources to securing down payment grants, credit counseling, and other tools for hopeful homebuyers.

UNION COUNTY â The Union County Chamber of Commerce pulled the curtain back on its revamped image with a press release earlier this week, featuring a new logo and an updated website.
âWe wanted to develop a style truly capturing the essence of La Grande and Union County â something timeless and modern, but something meaningful and characterizing a rich historic past,â Suzannah Moore-Hemann, the chamberâs executive director, said in a press release
The new logo, which resembles a postmark, represents Union Countyâs âworthinessâ as a destination while representing the chamberâs role in supporting local businesses, the release stated.
LA GRANDE â Union County residents proved over the weekend the holiday spirit is enduring and adaptable when more than 100 vehicles full of people turned out for a holiday decoration-viewing caravan, bringing charity and cheer to the community.
The caravan, which the Union County Chamber of Commerce and La Grande Main Street Downtown organized in a joint effort, brought people across the community together to enjoy one of the heartwarming traditions of the holiday season: seeing homes decked out in dazzling light displays.
âIt was fantastic,â said Suzannah Moore-Hemann, executive director of the chamber. âWe printed off 100 hard copies of the maps, and we ran out well before everyone was able to get them. I would estimate we had between 125 to 150 cars.â
