Illinois ends eviction moratorium

Illinois ends eviction moratorium SPRINGFIELD Gov. JB Pritzker said Monday the state would end its yearlong eviction moratorium and offer billions of dollars in new rental relief for residents. Pritzker said that by August of this year, eviction limits brought on thanks to COVID-19 will be lifted, with new housing assistance programs to be put in place. In line with our recovery and with this massive new round of assistance, we will work with our partners to bring an end to the eviction moratorium in August, with a gradual phaseout over the next few months, Pritzker said. Pritzker announced the end of the moratorium on the same day he promised $1.5 billion in rental relief. The program would have multiple sets of funding to provide residents with enough money to avoid evictions, despite the end of the moratorium. The new program has four times more money allocated than last year s program, which provided $329 million to renters and landlords across the state.
