Edmonds Diversity Commission, Arts Commission partner to offer small grants

MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: May 10, 2021 199 The City of Edmonds Diversity Commission and the City of Edmonds Arts Commission are partnering to offer small grants for the second half of 2021. The diversity commission’s small grants program is aimed at funding community programs, events and/or activities that engage, educate or involve the Edmonds community in ways that promote diversity, equity and inclusion. The arts commission is augmenting the funds available in 2021 to support the goals of the diversity commission and encourage efforts to promote diversity and equity through art and expand access to the arts for all. Individuals, local not-for-profit groups, agencies or organizations are encouraged to apply for small grants of up to $500. A total of $2,100 is available.

Presented by the City of Edmonds Arts Commission. “As the Earth Turns” is a science-fiction silent film by former Seattle filmmaker Richard Lyford. It is one of several films Lyford made before finding success with Walt Disney Studios in the 1940s. As with most of Lyford’s early films, it was presumed lost until it was discovered in the basement of his former Seattle home over 80 years later.

Cascade Symphony Orchestra is presenting this online music program free of charge through the generosity of orchestra donors and patrons. Classical KING FM (98.1) personality Dave Beck will open the May 3 CSO virtual program with a conversation with Cascade Symphony music director Michael Miropolsky. A special feature of this event will be a new arrangement of Latin American folk music by composer Shanti Seidel Molina, a native of Colima, Mexico. Constellation Musica, a small group of the CSO’s string musicians, performs Seidel Molina’s composition

Edmonds Arts Commission announces 2021 one-time grant awards Posted: March 10, 2021 380 In response to the negative impact of the pandemic on the arts in Edmonds, the City of Edmonds Arts Commission has funded one-time grants for Edmonds-based non-profit arts organizations and artists in the 2021 budget. According to a city announcement, the purpose of this new grant program was “to help build and reinforce a diverse, accessible and equitable cultural community in Edmonds, recognizing the uncertainty and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the necessity of changing strategies to create access for all to the arts.”  Seeking to support creativity, diversity and inclusive access to arts in the community, two categories of grants were offered: small grants of up to $1,000 for individual artists and other smaller organizations, and large grants of up to $10,000, which required a local nonprofit or a partnership with one for eligibility.

This recent trend showcases small art galleries, all under 5 inches. ARTspot is presenting a free little art gallery inspired by @free little art gallery. Visitors are invited to take a piece of miniature art, leave a piece or both! All are welcome, but please leave the tiny patrons and furniture in the gallery. The free little art gallery is located in the kiosk on the front of ARTspot at 408 Main St. Opening night features art work by Joan Ward and @tracykayfelixart.
