Six postdoctoral scholars joined Dartmouth s Society of Fellows in the fall of 2020, bringing to 14 the number of postdocs being mentored by faculty fellows in a close-knit intellectual community that integrates research with classroom experience.

Lori L. Martin was named the Erich and Lea Sternberg Honors Professor at Louisiana State University. Established in 1996, the professorship is the highest award conferred to faculty by the Ogden Honors College at the university.
“I am very proud to be associated with the Ogden Honors College,” Professor Martin said. “Long before it was popular for colleges and departments, the leadership of the Honors College has been committed to diversity. I’m so proud to be associated with a college that’s really concerned about the student experience and student success.”
Dr. Martin is a professor of sociology and a professor of African and African American studies. Dr. Martin joined the faculty at Louisiana State University in 2013, after teaching at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. Her latest book,
Ucross, an artist residency program and creative laboratory for the arts in northeast Wyoming, today announced playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins as its newest board member. Jacobs-Jenkins, whose work includes Everybody (Signature Theater), Neighbors (Public Theater), An Octoroon (Soho Rep, OBIE Award for Best New Play), Appropriate (Signature Theater, OBIE Award for Best New Play, Outer Critics Circle nominee), Gloria (Vineyard Theater, 2015), and War (Yale Rep, forthcoming), is a former Ucross Fellow.

Astronomers have curated the most complete list of nearby brown dwarfs to date thanks to discoveries made by thousands of volunteers participating in the Backyard Worlds citizen science project. The list and 3D map of 525 brown dwarfs including 38 reported for the first time incorporate observations from a host of astronomical instruments including several NOIRLab facilities. The results confirm that the Sun s neighborhood appears surprisingly diverse relative to other parts of the Milky Way Galaxy.
