Middle East countries struggle to bring pandemic under control
Most countries of the region are betting on immunisation to contain COVID-19 contamination, with some better equipped than others to acquire and distribute vaccines.

TUNIS – Restrictions were being tightened across the Middle East Monday in the face of an unrelenting coronavirus threat, with Israel preparing to close its international airport to nearly all flights and Egypt beginning its COVID-19 immunisation programme.
Since it emerged in late 2019, COVID-19 has killed more than 2.1 million people around the world, with over 99 million cases registered, according to official figures.
