Keeping track of your heart rate is probably a good thing. Obsessing about it probably isn’t.
That’s one drawback of the increasing popularity of wearable devices that constantly monitor heart rates, said Dr. Tracy Stevens, a cardiologist at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I’ve had people suffer significant injuries when they’re trying to check their heart rate while exercising,” she said. “They take a hand off their treadmill and shoot right off the back and fall off.”
Even without a monitor, the preoccupation can have consequences.
Study reveals people with high omega-3 index less likely to die from COVID-19 ANI | Updated: Jan 31, 2021 17:00 IST
Washington [US], January 31 (ANI): People who have a higher omega-3 index have a lower probability of dying due to COVID-19, suggest the findings of new research.
Researchers with the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI) and collaborators at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and in Orange County, CA, published the first direct evidence that higher omega-3 blood levels may reduce the risk for death from COVID-19 infection.
The report was published in the journal Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids .
There are several papers in the medical literature hypothesizing that omega-3 fatty acids should have beneficial effects in patients with COVID-19 infection, but up until now, there have been no published peer-reviewed studies supporting that hypothesis.

FARI and The Cooper Institute publish new research paper on omega-3s and heart rate recovery
The Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI) has published a new research paper in conjunction with The Cooper Institute on omega-3s and heart rate recovery.
Omega-3 fatty acids have a long history of being heart healthy but exactly why and how has been less clear. They are known to lower serum triglyceride levels, but the effect is relatively small and it s not clear how much of a risk factor high triglyceride levels is in the first place. So how do the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA work?
