On this solemn occasion, I pray for the repose of so many souls and express my heartfelt sympathy to those who lost their loved ones. Ten years ago, when the earthquake hit the northeastern part of Japan, the people of India offered their prayers for people thousands of kilometres away from their home. Much needed relief materials were provided by India. Thousands of Indian blankets warmed up those who had lost their homes and tonnes of biscuits and water bottles helped the people overcome their hunger.
