Pakistan records highest cement sales since 1990

Daily Times July 4, 2021 Cement companies in Pakistan have marked their highest sales in the financial year 2020-21 since 1990, according to the data maintained by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association. The industry also reported the highest growth of 20% since the fiscal year 2007-8, when it was recorded at 25%. But the quantity sold last financial year by the cement companies was almost double at 57 million tonnes as compared to 30 million tonnes sold in 2007-8. “The FBR’s amnesty scheme played an important role in the high sales,” said Senior Research Analyst Ali Zaidi. “It helped government bring black money in the tax net.”

Cement sales, exports witness double-digit growth

July 3, 2021 LAHORE: Cement sales and exports saw double-digit growth during the last fiscal year of 2021/22 as robust demand in the domestic market and global offtake continued despite coronavirus uncertainties, industry officials said on Friday. In FY2021, total cement despatches grew 20 percent to 57.4 million tons from 47.8 million tons in FY 2020, according to All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Local cement despatches increased 20.4 percent to 48.1 million tons. Exports also increased from 7.8 million tons to 9.3 million tons, showing a growth of 19 percent. APCMA spokesman said the year has been good for cement, as demand has grown considerably because of construction activities. “Start of construction activities under Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme and good PSDP [public sector development programme] spending helped cement sector witness a record-breaking growth,” said the spokesman.

Cement exports also saw an increase of 19pc from 7.847m tonnes during FY20 to 9.314m tonnes in FY21. As a result, total cement dispatches (local sales and exports) surged by 20pc to 57.433m tonnes from 47.812m tonnes in FY20, data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) showed on Friday.

KP govt releases Rs619 7m to pay clerics - Newspaper

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakht­unkhwa government on Friday released Rs619.7 million funds for the payment of honorarium to mosque imams and religious leaders of minorities across the province. In a notification, the finance department said it had agreed to release Rs619.7 million through the re-appropriation of funds as the financial year 2021-22’s first quarter stipend for prayer leaders and minority leaders. Special assistant to the chief minister for Auqaf and religious affairs Zahoor Shakir told Dawn that the government had allocated Rs2.6 billion to pay stipend to mosque imams and minority leaders. He said in the first phase, the government had collected and verified the particulars of over 6,500 religious leaders and would pay each of them Rs10,000 stipend every month.
