UMATILLA COUNTY â The Umatilla County Public Health Department announced two more COVID-19-related deaths in a Tuesday, Feb. 16, press release, bringing the county s total to 79 since the pandemic began.
The countyâs 78th victim of COVID-19 is a 74-year-old man who tested positive on Dec. 29, 2020, and died on Feb. 3 at Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston. He had unspecified underlying health conditions.Â
The countyâs 79th victim of COVID-19 is a 98-year-old man who tested positive on Jan. 27 and died in his home on Feb. 3. He had unspecified underlying health conditions.Â
The two reported deaths come as the county reports 27 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, raising the countyâs total confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases to 7,465 since the pandemic began.Â
Three inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing outbreak at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla died over the weekend, according to press releases from the Oregon Department of Corrections, bringing the death toll among adults in custody at the prison to seven since January began.
The first two inmates who died over the weekend were between 75 to 85 years old and died on Saturday, Jan. 16, the press releases said. The third was between 55 and 65 and died on Sunday, Jan. 17. Each died at a local hospital.
A few days earlier, the deaths of two other TRCI inmates with COVID-19 were announced. One is a man between 70 and 80 years old who passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, Jan. 10, according to a press release from ODOC. The second who died after testing positive was a man between 65 and 75 years old. He died at a local hospital on Thursday, Jan. 14.
PENDLETON â The Umatilla County Health Department announced the countyâs 57th COVID-19 death in a Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, press release.
The victim is a 66-year-old male who tested positive Dec. 10, 2020, and died Dec. 25, 2020, at Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston. This individual had underlying medical conditions, according to the press release.
The announcement comes as the health department reported 143 new cases on Dec. 31, bringing the county s total to 5,640 total cases reported in the county, according to the Umatilla County COVID-19 dashboard.
According to a press release, 77 of these cases are connected to outbreaks at local prisons.
Morrow County reported 10 new cases, bringing its total to 815 cases. Morrow County has had eight deaths since the pandemic started earlier this year.
