Louise Wainwright was sitting in a folding chair at Good Shepherd Baptist Church after getting her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan held a brief press conference at the other end of the room. But for Wainwright, the most important figure in her decision to overcome her concerns and get the vaccine was standing off to Duncan s left, her pastor, the Rev. Clarence Moore.
Moore was one of a group of pastors of historically Black churches in the Augusta area who partnered with AU Health System to not only get the vaccine but, in Good Shepherd s case, to serve as an outreach site. Moore s wife got it as well, Wainwright said.

The likelihood of that occurring in extremely slim, but if it does, the court will set a new election date

PETERSBURG There s a vote recount here Monday. Electoral Board members, election officials and interested parties will converge socially distanced on the registrar s office to begin the task of counting every single ballot cast in last November s Ward 2 City Council election.
The recount was made possible due to the whisker-thin margin of victory for incumbent Darrin Hill over challenger Marlow Jones four votes. Because of that, Jones was entitled to a recount, which he requested and a judge granted.

A Petersburg church will host the distribution of 5,000 to-go meals in partnership with a Newport News nonprofit that is on the front lines of feeding people.
Open to all, meals distribution is to take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road in Petersburg, it has been announced.
The food is coming from Feeding 5000, a nonprofit led by Andrew Shannon, who also is president of the Newport News chapter of the Southern Christian Leader- ship Conference.
Mr. Shannon said his 21-year-old organization is seeking to address hunger issues resulting from the pandemic.
