Elkhart opens new butterfly habitat Staff report The Village of Elkhart, Illinois Elkhart is celebrating nature and plants at a new exhibit located along Route 66. A ceremony along with a day of family friendly activities is being planned Saturday, June 12. A new “Elkhart Monarch Flyway” Native Plant and Pollinator Habitat, is located at the corner of Historic Route 66 and Governor Oglesby Street in Elkhart, and  will open to the public after a brief ceremony at 9:45 a.m.  Saturday, June 12. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. several activities are scheduled in the Village.  At the Flyway, enjoy a tour of the native plants and an opportunity to receive a free Native Plant Kit (while supplies last).  Also at the habitat location, there will be a photo opportunity with a giant six foot monarch butterfly.  The event will encourage attendees to experience a different opportunity – involving nature and plants - on Illinois’ Route 66 Scenic Byway and the Route 66 Monarch Flyway.

Elkhart Historical Society plans Irish celebration Lincoln Courier The Elkhart Historical Society is celebrating the Irish at 2p.m. Sunday March 21 by offering Irish, Celtic and Appalachian music at the Gillett Chapel on the Hill. The cost for the concert will be $10 per person. For those who want to add an optional traditional Corned Beef and cabbage dinner for an extra $15 per person between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Wild Hare Café. Both events can be reserved by calling 217 947 2238. Reservations must be made with prompt payment no later than March 17th.
