Vitol Bunkers Launches Marine Fuel Carbon Offset Offering

Vitol, has started offering carbon offsets to its customers. The company will offer Verified Emissions Reductions (VER) certificates to its marine fuel customers who want to offset the emissions resulting from their use of bunker fuel, it said in an emailed statement on Wednesday. The VERs will conform to the highest international standards and will be sourced from Vitol s existing portfolio and the wider market and emissions will be calculated using IMO and EU guidelines, the company said in the statement. Customers will be offered a range of offset solutions to enable them to align mitigation with their broader emissions reduction programme and a fully bespoke programme will be available for customers wishing to deploy this strategy at scale.

Governor Andy Beshear provided an update on COVID-19 in the Commonwealth, with a higher than average number of new cases due in part to lab reporting system issues. The governor announced 614 new COVID-19 cases, 119 of which were children 18 and younger. That brings the state’s total case number to 461,119. 273 Kentuckians remain hospitalized with 80 in the ICU. 40 patients remain on a ventilator. The state’s positivity rate is 2.12%. Gov. Beshear also announced six deaths, bringing the state’s death toll to 7,109. At least 2,091,572 Kentuckians have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. As of Tuesday, only one of the state’s 120 counties is in the red zone on the state’s COVID-19 incidence rate map. Lane, Coos, and Wasco counties will move down to Lower Risk, and Josephine and Yamhill counties will move down to Moderate Risk, effective Wednesday, June 9. Harney County will move up from Lower Risk to Moderate Risk due to rising case counts, effective Friday, June 11. Harney County had been granted a caution period from June 4 through June 10. Effective through Thursday, June 17, there will be 21 counties at the Lower Risk level, 4 at Moderate Risk, and 11 at the High Risk level.
