Northlanders will no longer have to travel to Auckland for lifesaving heart procedures like angiograms, angioplasty and the insertion of pacemakers, thanks to two new operating theatres and a cardiac catheter lab opened at Whangārei Hospital.
Northland District Health Board has delivered just 70 per cent of its target vaccine numbers, but it has increased vaccine numbers ten-fold and widened eligibility.
Over the past six weeks, the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered by Northland DHB has increased from 300 doses a week to nearly 4000 a week – that’s an increase of more than 1000 percent. “Northland DHB is performing well, already 6.3 percent .

Busloads of Aucklanders, and a couple who flew from the South Island, have been turned away from having Covid-19 vaccinations in Northland - and some Northlanders are finding it nearly as hard to get their jabs.
