It s hard to see how the situation of the Guam Veterans Cemetery in Piti could get much worse.
The popular community institution is under severe criticism by the national Veterans Administration. Its budget and staffing falls short.
“You can’t expect three guys to take care of this large footprint on a daily basis and conduct funerals of which we have an average of about two a day,” said Tim Aguon, acting Guam Veterans Affairs Officer.
Last Sunday Gabriel Barcinas, the cemetery s maintenance supervisor for more than a decade, died.
Aguon stationed himself at the cemetery for the past week to ensure needed work gets done.
