Since the summer of 2020, The Tennessean s Black Tennessee Voices initiative has built on the longtime Tennessee Voices name, with a focus on uplifting, empowering and amplifying the voices of Black thinkers, leaders and doers who reside in our great state.
What began as a special opinion section after the tragic death of George Floyd to showcase the powerful Black voices in our state has grown into a Facebook group and a monthly feature in the Tennessee Voices newsletter.
Black residents make up nearly 30% of Nashville s population and about 17% of Tennesseans, but they have been historically underrepresented in our coverage, featured voices and in our newsroom. We want to change that.
Across the country, Black city-builders are imagining and building more just and beautiful communities. What are they learning and dreaming? Join Orlando P. Bailey of Urban Consulate for a new series of candid conversations rooted in radical truth, joy and love. In this one-hour virtual premiere event, Bailey welcomes three featured guests from Washington, D.C., Minneapolis and Cincinnati to delve deep into key themes and invite audience reflection and action. Register for the premiere and learn how to watch each episode as they debut. [[person 1]] [[person 2]] [[person 3]] [[person 4]] This series is made possible by: [[logo 1]] [[logo 2]]

WEST MICHIGAN â United Way is seeking baby supply donations across three West Michigan counties to help local families in need.
The organization says babies can go through as many as 12 diapers a day and the cost can add up to about $900 a year.
âThere are many new and expecting mothers in our community that are doing their best to make ends meet and are unsure of how they will afford their next diaper,â says UWL Community Engagement Director, Dominique Bunker. âMothers need much more than just diapers to keep their newborns and toddlers healthy. For example, wipes, ointments, baby bottles, formulas, clothes, teethers, and thermometers are all needed to keep a baby healthy and happy. The costs of these items are significant but necessary.â
