Mayor Gale Katchur has said the City is “disappointed” with the 2021 provincial budget.
Alberta Finance Minister Travis Toews tabled the UCP government’s third budget earlier this month, which projected a record-breaking $18.2-billion deficit. The government was hit with both the COVID-19 pandemic and low oil prices this past year, which affected the budget significantly.

Most notably for the City of Fort Saskatchewan, municipal infrastructure was cut by nearly 25 per cent.
“The City is disappointed that funding for critical infrastructure programs is being reduced and while we do understand the challenges the province is experiencing and why they need to reduce funding, it’s still going to have a significant impact on our city as well as all municipalities,” Katchur said.
