Julie Nesseth thanks Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard Wednesday, Jan. 20, who presented her with a public service award at the sheriff s office for calling 911 when she and her husband Michael heard someone yelling for help Oct. 3 near the Hesitation Wildlife Management Area in the Garrison Township. Firefighters assist at crash
The Brainerd Fire Department was called for extrication, but nobody involved in crash was transported to a hospital.

The Brainerd Fire Department is at the intersection of East River Road and Laurel Street in Brainerd.
Emergency responders were called just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Spencer Road and Crow Wing County Highway 3, near Merrifield.
The Brainerd Fire Department was called for extrication.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office reported there were no injuries, but North Memorial Health Ambulance responded as a precaution. No one was transported from the scene by ambulance.
This is one of many protests by the group identifying themselves as water protectors at various sites, including drilling sites and forested lands. In the past several months, there have been occasional protests outside the work yard near Backus on Highway 87.

The home was determined to be a total loss. Brainerd Fire Department firefighters braved strong winds and sub-zero temperatures at the time of the fire with a wind chill of 27 below.
