Houston doctor provides tips fully vaccinated residents

Oak Forest’s Andrea Hindi is sending her two kids back to in-person school on Monday for the first time since last March. She is also making doctor’s appointments for things she let go over the past year. The reason? Hindi is one of the 14 percent of people in the U.S. who are fully vaccinated, according to Dr. Linda Yancey, an infectious disease specialist with Memorial Hermann Health System. Heights resident Jenna Taylor said hugging her fully vaccinated parents is the best part about being vaccinated. “I m also more comfortable about meeting with friends outside and simple things, like going to the grocery store, feel way less stressful now,” Taylor said. “It s like having a weight lifted that you didn t even know was there.”

Memorial Hermann Greater Heights garners maternity care honor

Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, located at 1635 N. Loop W., was among eight hospitals in the Memorial Hermann Health System recently named as “Best Maternity Care Hospitals” by Newsweek. This designation relies on data from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports the quality and safety of healthcare facilities in the U.S., and was bestowed upon 217 hospitals across the country. “This recognition is a testament to the great teamwork, high-quality care and commitment to patient safety that makes Memorial Hermann a great place for pregnant women,” said Victoria Reagan, vice president of Memorial Hermann s women’s and children’s service line.

Memorial Hermann caters vaccination clinic to educators

When the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) announced teachers would be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations on March 3, Kristin Lucas wanted to be among the first to join the ranks of inoculated educators in Fort Bend County. She received her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine four days later on March 7. This past Sunday and Monday, many more school workers in the region also were vaccinated as Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital held a drive-through clinic dedicated to teachers and other school employees at Smart Financial Centre.  Lucas has been teaching math at Dulles High School since 1997.  “Once they had doses ready, it was a very smooth process,” Lucas said. “You drove up to a numbered tent and a nurse came over to your car. I was particularly impressed with mine as I never felt the needle.”

HOUSTON Mauricio Marin felt his heart tighten when the power flicked off at his Richmond, home on the evening of Feb. 14, shutting down his plug-in breathing machine. Gasping, he rushed to connect himself to one of the portable oxygen tanks his doctors had sent home with him weeks earlier to help his lungs recover after his three-week stay in a COVID-19 intensive care unit.
