De Jesús, Houston Chronicle / Staff photographer After nine months of waiting, Houston-area hospitals are preparing for their first shipment of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine. The first round of Pfizer s COVID-19  vaccine are now slated to go out on Dec. 14, according to the Texas Department of Health Services. Across the Lone Star State, there will be 224,250 doses shipped to 109 Texas hospitals in 34 counties, according to DSHS. We could get a supply of vaccine for administration within a day or two of FDA s emergency use approval. We could possibly have a supply as early as next Monday, Memorial Hermann Health System s CEO Dr. David Callender told Chron. Callender added that Houston s Memorial Hermann Health System was promised 16,575 doses of the vaccine by the state of Texas.
