I support a diversity of opinions and opportunities to learn from them. What I don t support are people who take an oath of office and then repeatedly and intentionally fail to fulfill the requirements of their office.

Tribune editorial board, me, and others, Mr. Dow has continued to fail to fulfill his oath to fairly apply the law. First, he advocates selective application of the law at a private gathering with his Tea Party base. Shortly thereafter, he appears at a state secessionist rally. Subsequently, in an apparent effort to defend against charges of selective prosecution, his office s investigator gets called out for cajoling a witness to testify falsely about injuries from the civil protests. Most recently, the judge in the Tianna Arata case disqualified not only Mr. Dow but also the entire District Attorney s Office for conflict of interest.

Dublin resident and former two-term California assemblywoman Catharine Baker has been appointed to the state s Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC).

Baker, a longtime attorney who developed a reputation for bipartisanship as a Republican in the State Assembly, will return the FPPC to full five-person membership. The commission, designed to be an independent and nonpartisan body, is responsible for administration of the state s Political Reform Act, which regulates campaign rules, lobbying and government ethics.
State watchdog fines San Jose Water executive, Cupertino political committee for campaign violations

The state’s political watchdog has fined a Silicon Valley political action committee and San Jose Water Chief Administrative Officer Andrew Walters $5,000 for failing to file campaign finance reports on time.
The Cupertino Chamber PAC and Walters, who was the committee’s treasurer at the time, failed to timely file two expenditure reports disclosing a total of $11,021 and two campaign contribution reports disclosing a total of $12,474 during the November 2016 election cycle, according to the Fair Political Practices Commission. The reports were related to three mailers the PAC sent out less than two weeks before the election.
