Print article A coronavirus outbreak at Alaska’s largest prison is accelerating, with 110 inmates testing positive for the virus as of Monday. Goose Creek Correctional Center first reported coronavirus cases among inmates on Nov. 2, when the Alaska Department of Corrections announced that 22 inmates and five staff members tested positive. By Monday, the number had grown to 110 positive inmates, according to DOC spokeswoman Sarah Gallagher. As of Monday, the prison, an hour west of Wasilla near Point McKenzie, housed a total of 1,317 pretrial and sentenced prisoners. The Goose Creek outbreak began in one of the prison’s housing units, known as mods. Each houses 64 prisoners. With more than 100 infected, the outbreak seems to have expanded beyond a single housing unit.
Print article A father and son were arrested after troopers said they fatally shot a teenager north of Fairbanks early Thursday. Troopers and medical responders were called to the corner of the Old Steese Highway and Goldstream Road north of Fairbanks at 3:50 a.m. for a reported shooting, troopers wrote in an online report. At the scene, troopers found 18-year-old Brett Allen of Fairbanks with multiple gunshot wounds. He was brought to the hospital, where troopers said he was pronounced dead. A later investigation showed that a group of people had been in a verbal altercation with 43-year-old Anthony Peterson before the situation turned violent, troopers wrote. Both Anthony Peterson and his 18-year-old son, Aaron Peterson, fired multiple shots at Allen, troopers said.

Troopers responded to a residence in Fairbanks just before midnight on Saturday in reference to a DV Assault, AST reported.
Upon arrival, an investigation was initiated that would find that 56-year-old Curtis Chamberlain had committed Assault IV on a victim there and had also committed Criminal Mischief. As a result, troopers placed Chamberlain under arrest on those charges. During his arrest, the suspect actively fought with the officers and so, was charged with Resisting Arrest as well.
Then after being placed in the patrol vehicle, Chamberlain decided to defecate in the back of the vehicle. As a result, he was charged with a second count of Criminal Mischief V. He would be ultimately be remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on the charges.
