CASE COUNT SUMMARY, Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 DHSS today announced 152 new people identified with COVID-19 in Alaska. 150 were residents in: Anchorage (83), Kusilvak Census Area (13), North Pole (7), Bethel (6), Fairbanks (6), Wasilla (6), Eagle River (4), Homer (4), Soldotna (4), Kodiak (3), Palmer (3), Bethel Census Area (2), Delta Junction (2), and one each in Chevak, Houston, Juneau, Nikiski, Nome, Sitka and Utqiaġvik. Two new nonresident cases were identified yesterday: Anchorage: one in ‘other industry’ Location under investigation: one with purpose under investigation The total number of Alaska resident cases is 42,563 and the total number of nonresident cases is 1,460. ALERT LEVELS – The current statewide alert level, based on the average daily case rate over 14 days per 100,000, is high at 61.26 cases per 100,000. All regions in Alaska except one are in high alert status with widespread community transmission occurring.

Credit Fairbanks Education Association The associations that represent Fairbanks-area teachers, principals and support staff released a statement Friday opposing the opening of schools in January. The Board of Education for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District voted a week ago to give students the option to return to in-person learning for the second semester. The board’s plan does not require schools to absolutely follow the CDC’s COVID-19 or the state of Alaska’s Smart Start guidelines for masking, social distancing and hygiene  the plan only “acknowledges” that schools will meet those guidelines “to the best of their abilities.”

CASE COUNT SUMMARY, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020 DHSS today announced 185 new people identified with COVID-19 in Alaska. 180 were residents in: Anchorage (88), Eagle River (18), Bethel (13), Kenai (8), Fairbanks (6), Homer (6), Palmer (6), Soldotna (6), Utqiaġvik (6), Wasilla (4), Chugiak (3), Juneau (2), North Pole (2), Sterling (2), and one each in Bethel Census Area, Girdwood, Kenai Peninsula Borough North, Kotzebue, North Slope Borough, Northwest Arctic Borough, Prince of Wales-Hyder, Sitka, Sutton-Alpine, and Wrangell. Five new nonresident cases were identified yesterday: Anchorage: one with purpose under investigation Kodiak: one in ‘other industry’ Locations under investigation: three with purposes under investigation Two resident cases were subtracted from the dashboard through data verification procedures. This brings the total number of Alaska resident cases to 42,413 and the total number of nonresident cases to 1,458.
