As of Wednesday afternoon, 21 caregivers at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center had received the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19.Â
First in line was Dr. Dana Kerr, an emergency room physician at the hospital who got the vaccine on Tuesday evening. Kerr has been treating the growing wave of patients with the virus over the past few weeks in Kodiak, putting her squarely into the first tier of Alaskans designated to get the vaccine.Â
She also volunteered, having tracked the vaccineâs development for months with pharmacist Stephanie Hurley and others at the hospital.Â
âWe had been talking quite a bit about it since May. ⦠They had asked who would be willing to take it first, and I had volunteered,â Kerr said.Â
