Man charged with attempted murder over alleged stabbing of Newcastle woman
A man charged with the attempted murder of a Newcastle woman will front court today.
The 38-year-old allegedly stabbed the woman â aged 34 â in a domestic-related assault in Newcastle on Friday.
It is alleged the woman attempted to flee an apartment and seek assistance from neighbours when the man, known to her, stabbed her.

Her injuries were so severe she required surgery and she currently remains in a critical condition.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District arrested the man at the scene and he was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Newcastle Police Station.
A man has been arrested following an alleged domestic-related stabbing in Newcastle yesterday.
About 6.30pm (Friday 9 April 2021), emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing at a unit on William Street, Jesmond.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District located a 34-year-old woman with a serious stab wound to her neck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene, before she was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Detectives established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the incident.
A short time later, a 38-year-old man – who is known to the woman – was arrested at the scene.

Appeal after fatal stabbing of man near Newcastle
Police are appealing for public assistance as they continue to investigate the fatal stabbing of a man in Newcastle last week.
About 8.20pm on Sunday (7 March 2021), a man attended a home on Broadmeadow Road, Broadmeadow, where the female occupant observed a stab wound to his stomach.
The woman and a neighbour rendered assistance prior to the arrival of emergency services.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital where later died on Tuesday (9 March 2021).
The man has since been identified as 56-year-old Christopher Ward.
As inquiries continue, police are now treating the death as a homicide.
