Jarryd Hayne has pleaded his innocence in an outburst in court during his rape charge sentence hearing, following a confronting statement from his victim.
The former NRL star arrived at court in Newcastle in the rain on Thursday wearing sunglasses and shielded by an umbrella. He was surrounded by dozens of friends and family.
The 33-year-old will learn his fate at 2.30pm after a NSW District Court jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in March. He faces up to 14 years in jail.

Jarryd Hayne has been jailed for at least three years and eight months for sexually assaulting a woman inside her Newcastle home.
Judge Helen Syme on Thursday sentenced Hayne to a maximum of five years and nine months behind bars, with a non-parole period of three years and eight months.

Hayne was handed a five year, nine month prison sentence for a 2018 rape, of which sentencing Judge
Helen Syme stated that Hayne was “fully aware that the victim was not consenting and went ahead anyway.”
Following the sentencing being read, supporters for Hayne reportedly caused a stir inside the court room, with one woman yelling “you’re innocent” as the 33-year-old was being lead away by police.
