USD 373 working on COVID-19 testing expansion

Newton Unified School District 373 is pursing a way to provide COVID-19 testing to staff and students as the second semester of the 2020-21 school year begins. It will be free of charge through the end of the school year, said Superintendent Fred Van Rankin.
The school district had relied on testing by Well Health, which was initially offered to the community in the Newton High School parking lot before moving to the Chisholm Trail Mall, for testing in December. However, turnaround time was an issue for district employees.
The school district chose to go with to another source.
Newton USD 373 board VP Budde steps down

Jennifer Budde, the current vice president of the board of education for Newton Unified School District 373, on Monday announced her resignation from the board. It has been my honor to serve the community, Budde said. . I stand behind every vote that I have cast the past three years and I see USD 373 moving in a very positive direction.
Budde and her husband made a decision this summer to move their children from the Newton school district to another school system. The board amended the agenda Monday to accept Budde s resignation, as she made her announcement during the board member comment portion of the meeting.
